Tips for a Perfect Lawn

The beauty of a lawn can dull over time. Plant selection is a key element of success, making it less resistant to water and drought. By following these five steps, you will achieve a beautiful lawn in no time.

1. Clean the area

Start by cutting the old lawn, which will make your work easier later.

Change the Mantis mower to bleach mode to till the soil to about 20 centimeters effortlessly. Then, make two passes, being careful to keep the machine at low speed so that the tines remove the roots. Nature will do the rest: the grasses will dry in the sun this way.

2. Leveling the land

Once the grasses are dry, reverse the direction of the tines on the Mantis mower to loosen the soil at the surface. Use a rake to unpack the last clumps of grass and pull out any plants that are still rooted. Put them in a wheelbarrow and add them to your composter.

The rake will then take over to remove stones, roots, and remaining plant debris. It will also level the soil to eliminate holes and bumps, which are not recommended before sowing grass.

3. Sow the grass

There are grasses that are drought-resistant but also withstand trampling. Always choose your seeds based on your region, the exposure of your lawn, and what you want to do with it.

No need to sow an English lawn that is as ornamental as it is fragile if you want children and pets to use the lawn for play!

Once you have determined this important parameter, all you have to do is sow.

Always prefer to sow in good weather and when it is not too windy. Mix the seeds well in a bucket beforehand to ensure an even lawn, as the mixes contain different seed sizes corresponding to the various grass varieties that make them up.

If your area is really large, feel free to divide it into different zones. You will work on each zone, one after the other. Take a handful of seeds in one hand and sow them by hand, with each of your steps corresponding to a handful of seeds thrown. Move straight ahead and always use the same gesture so that your sowing is very regular.

4. Bury the seeds

Place the wheelbarrow under the Mantis composter specifically designed to accommodate a wheelbarrow below and facilitate compost collection.

Open the door of the composter, replace it with a sieve if you have one, and collect the compost you have prepared beforehand. Cover your seeds with an inch of this fertile amendment. Then, roll a 80 kg roller over the soil to smooth it out well.

Be careful! Always continue on dry soil to avoid the soil and seeds sticking to the roller.

5. Irrigation

If rain is not expected imminently, water the lawn with a fine mist, it should arrive in the evening. Pass over each area several times so that the soil is well moist but still in fine droplets to avoid moving the seeds. The first seedlings should appear after a week.

Lightweight, ergonomic, thermal or electric, Mantis offers a wide selection of rotors for preparation and accessories — aerator, scarifier — for soil and lawn maintenance… once they have grown.
