Don’t worry, after choosing from our storage tips for your kitchen, you can put some effort into your cabinets or do a few small projects.

Just change the handles of your furniture

Instead of investing in new furniture, you can simply change the handles of the cabinets and drawers.

“For less than 5 euros per handle, we have different styles,” explains interior designer Laura Benitta. Chrome handles, porcelain, industrial style, porcelain for a vintage touch…

“You can also replace the handles with leather straps. It’s on trend,” advises Laura Benitta.

Cover the facades with stickers

Another economical solution is custom-cut stickers to cover your doors. Again, all colors and material effects are available, from wood imitation to metallic adhesive.

Cover old kitchen furniture with a medium panel

“For rustic furniture with moldings, you can cover them with a custom medium panel,” recommends Alexia Rhodier, interior decorator at Sweet Home Staging.

Just glue or nail this medium panel onto the frame that goes around the door. This way, you get a smooth and more modern surface. It’s up to you to leave it raw or repaint it.

Replace the doors of your kitchen furniture

And why not change the doors? This is what architect Agathe Molisset, a consultant in eco-construction and sustainable decoration at the Origami agency, chose to do. She only changed the blue doors, selecting several wood colors for a very successful patchwork effect.

“The most expensive part of a kitchen cabinet is not the cabinet itself, but the door. It costs between 30 and 50 euros, so if we have a dozen to change, it adds up quickly,” explains Alexia Rhodier.

Another limitation: “If you have a kitchen cabinet that is more than ten years old, it will be difficult to find new doors,” adds the interior designer.

In fact, in the meantime, standards have changed. Manufacturers have standardized their measurements at the European level and adopted even numbers (40, 60, 80, 100… cm wide), whereas previously they were odd.

Of course, you can always have them custom-made by a craftsman!

To redesign your kitchen, you can also repaint or cover your sketches, inspired by the latest trends. Or why not change the countertop? So, without touching your furniture, you will see it in a different light!
