It has been a long time since a new review or article has been written here. It’s been even longer since I last wrote something for the site. Life has a way of sneaking up on you, pulling you away from things you enjoy. But it did give many new things that I now enjoy. Onto the topic at hand.
Let’s start with me, since that is the easiest place for me. In January I decided that I needed to pull away from the site, mostly because I just didn’t have the time. I spent more time with my son, which means less time for playing games. More of the review games I was receiving were things that I just wasn’t enjoying playing. With free time at a premium, I needed to focus more on games I love. Even in the last 5 months, I have only completed a couple on my pile of shame.
I left with three reviews still on my plate, and I did send out apologies to those publishers. I can say out of those three, all of them were very enjoyable. Finding the time to write the review was another story. Write ups for those games will come, when I have a moment, but most of my time is planning for Extra Life 2017.
Jeff’s departure from the site is understandable. Whether he will return or not is another topic entirely as well.
So where do we go from here?
I am really involved in Extra Life. I had the pleasure of getting to check out Extra Life United, and winning a ton of money for my children’s hospital playing board games there. Extra Life United renewed my ambition for raising money for my local children’s hospital. So, if you follow me on twitter, expect to hear a lot about the events I am currently putting together.
I do plan to completely reboot the site. When I say reboot, I mean clean everything up, and start with a 100% fresh install, database and the whole nine. There are some back end issues that I just can’t sort out and since we are in this place now, I think it would be a good time to reboot the whole thing.
I would like to revive the podcast, because that was my favorite part of this whole thing. Just Press Start was all about talking about video games, talking to developers and asking questions most other gaming outlets don’t ask. We are about the creative process that goes into creating a game. Doesn’t matter where the game falls; indie, niche, triple A, it was always about the process. Being able to go from a black screen to something imaginative and beautiful has always been the focus.
So, there are good things in the future. Rebuilding the community will take some time, but I know it can be done. We just need to refresh, reinvent how we do a few things, and then just do what we do best.
I thank you all for remaining loyal and checking out our reviews here. I hope in our future you come back and see what’s new. If I were to ball park a time line, I would say summer would be when I would be able to start working on things, more specifically, July. August will be a little difficult with number 2 on the way an all.
So bear with us while we refresh things and get things moving again. It may take some time, but I am sure it will happen.
